SUMMARY:

Plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal parts, equipment, and products by performing the following duties:

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

Include the following; however other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.
  • Responsible for ensuring products coming from his/her areas of responsibility meet or exceed all workmanship standards and quality standards either detailed or implied.
  • Ensures all activities that are carried out in his/her areas of responsibility comply with company and ISO policies and procedures.
  • Selects gauge and type of sheet metal such as galvanized iron, copper, steel, or aluminum, or nonmetallic material such as plastics or fiberglass, according to product specifications.
  • Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patterns of product or parts, or uses templates.
  • Sets up and operates fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, forming rolls, lasers, and saws, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials.
  • Exhibits a detailed understanding of fabrication processes including bend allowances, press brake tooling, shear tooling, laser operations, and metal sawing operations.
  • Shapes metal material over anvil, block, or other form.
  • Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smoothes surfaces.
  • Installs assemblies in supportive framework according to blueprints.
  • Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications.
  • Repairs and maintains sheet metal products.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years experience in a fabrication environment required.  Five years preferred.
  • Technical school diploma a plus but not required.
  • Have working knowledge of the limitations of the machine/tooling being used.
  • Must be able to think outside the box.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normal hours are from 6:00am to 4:30pm Monday thru Thursday. Smoking is allowed in some designated areas. The noise levels in some manufacturing facilities frequently may exceed the normal dba. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or ask for assistance with lifting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock and weld flash (high intensity infrared and ultraviolet rays). The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee may be required to wear safety glasses, hearing protection, a respirator, and/or a dust mask depending upon the nature of the work performed.
